Professional Typesetting & Layout

InDesign Interior
Formatting.

Expert Adobe InDesign typesetting for KDP, IngramSpark & Lulu. Unlike automated conversions, we layout every page manually — ensuring proper baseline alignment, kerning, gutter widths, and widow/orphan elimination.

Hand-set typesetting from $99 — includes print-ready PDF/X-1a export and validated reflowable ePub conversion.

THE POWER OF
ADOBE INDESIGN.

We construct every interior using professional Adobe InDesign systems rather than word processors. This enables strict mathematical control over master grid systems, margins, and running headers.

Our typesetting workflow exports direct PDF/X-1a files — the target format required by professional book distributors. We ensure all font weights are properly embedded, image objects are formatted for CMYK printing at 300 DPI, and bleed guides are exactly aligned.

Authors seeking to preserve full source file custody for future edits or sequels receive layered INDD package source files in our Premium and Elite layout tiers.

Formatting FAQs.

Professional InDesign book formatting at DesignDile starts at $99 base plus $0.30 per page for the Standard tier, which covers ebook formatting and a basic front cover setup. For a full print interior layout — the service most print-on-demand authors need — the Premium tier starts at $199 base plus $0.50 per page. A 250-page novel on Premium totals approximately $324. All tiers include our 100% KDP and IngramSpark first-pass acceptance guarantee. See the full pricing breakdown on our Pricing page.

Both platforms require PDF/X-1a format with CMYK images, but their margin and bleed specifications differ. KDP requires 0.125" bleed on all four sides and a minimum gutter of 0.375" for books under 150 pages, scaling up to 0.875" for 600-page manuscripts. IngramSpark has slightly different bleed requirements depending on paper stock (white vs cream) and enforces stricter ink density limits (300% maximum total ink coverage). DesignDile builds InDesign export presets for both platforms within a single source file, so you receive compliant PDFs for both without paying a separate formatting fee.

No — and this is one of the most common and costly mistakes in self-publishing. A print PDF is a fixed-layout file with exact page dimensions, margins, bleed, and embedded fonts. A Kindle or Apple Books ebook must be a reflowable document that adapts to every screen size from a phone to a tablet. They are fundamentally different file types. DesignDile produces both from the same InDesign project: a print-ready PDF/X-1a for KDP and IngramSpark paperback/hardcover, and a reflowable EPUB3 for Kindle and Apple Books. Both outputs are included in the Premium and Elite tiers.

DesignDile formats for all standard KDP and IngramSpark trim sizes including 6x9 inches for non-fiction, 5.5x8.5 inches for fiction, 8.5x11 inches for workbooks, and children's book sizes such as 8.5x8.5 and 8x10 inches.
